Looking back on this year’s Atlantic salmon run, these were probably the biggest numbers we’ve seen—at least since I started fishing Atlantics on Lake Huron and the Lower Au Sable. The size class was incredible too, with fish bigger than anything we’ve caught in past seasons. The coho run was huge as well, and we mixed in some beautiful steelhead along the way.
As you know, most of my program is all streamer fishing, which does take us out of some of the more traditional steelhead water. But most of my clients (and myself) just enjoy swinging and stripping flies for Atlantic’s
so much that we’re happy to trade a few steelhead numbers for that style of fishing. We don’t do a ton of nymphing .
That said, winter is coming—and with it, the bottom-bouncing and indicator season is right around the corner.
