End of August has that feeling—fall is just around the corner, and there’s a lot to look forward to. Sure, bird season opener is coming, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Right now, we’ve still got great hopper fishing, flying ants, and quality nymphing with plenty of trout to chase. This time of year also marks the start of the salmon run. I don’t fish kings as much as I used to—these days I’d rather stay close to home on the beautiful trout streams around my place. But I am looking forward to late September, when the first Atlantics roll in. On top of that, the smallmouth bite is still going strong. Lots of fun things happening here in Northern Michigan!
