The AuSable River is one of the most famous trout streams in the United States. Hatches on this River are legendary. Some might even say the best hatches in the Country. We also guide for trout on the Manistee river. I’m fortunate that I live close to both rivers. My trout trips are run through Old AuSable Fly Shop. Each season presents it’s own opportunities for some great fishing. Streamer fishing in the high water during spring and late fall is ideal for Brown Trout. The famous hatches start in the middle of April and end towards the end of June or early July. After early July, the morning terrestrial bite can be a lot of fun. You might not get the big one, but you catch lots of nice wild fish and every now and then a big one shows up. For those looking for the mid-summer, trophy brown trout, throwing imitation mice under the cover of darkness is your best chance. There is so much to talk about with trout.
